IIED is a policy and action research organisation working on sustainable development. It promotes sustainable development in the global south through research, policy engagement and convening, focusing on the connections between environment, economics, governance and culture. Founded in 1971, IIED works with partners in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and the Pacific to develop and implement policies that strengthen rights, protect environments and improve livelihoods.
